Andrea has been involved in education and counseling for more than 30 years. She began her educational career in 1981 in Anniston, Alabama, teaching at St. Mary’s Catholic School. She joined American Red Cross in Germany as an emergency station manager and branched out becoming a Train the Trainer for all courses and provided counseling/case management during Operations Desert Shield/Storm with a “Secret Clearance.” She worked for NAF and AF as a government service (GS 12 E) employee in the areas of DANTES Test Administrator, Training Specialist, EEO/EO counselor, Family Childcare Director and Childcare Center Director. She was a college registrar for both the University of Maryland and Boston University while preforming as an adjunct lecturer for City Colleges of Chicago and Central Texas College. She became a National Board Certified Counselor in 1996 and a Registered Psychotherapist. She worked for the Department of the Army as an Education Counselor/VA Representative. Andrea has received numerous awards including: Department of the Army Commanders Award for Civilian Service and Commanding General’s Award of Merit, Goodwill Industries Community Partnership Award, and the Goodwill Industries Puddin’ Award. Andrea attended Jacksonville State University graduating with her B.S. in English and Sociology in Secondary Education through the Kappa Delta Epsilon Honorary Sorority. She received her Ed.M. in counseling as an honor graduate from Boston University. She completed first Certified Volunteer Administrator’s (CVA) Program from the University of Colorado. She is a trained Stephen Minister with additional training from Rocky Mountain Theological Institute and is a certified Grief Counselor and Lead Addictions Therapist at Innova Recovery. She has completed numerous professional and industry specific seminars and continuing education courses to include courses from Steven Covey and Dave Ramsey. Andrea has had a rich and rewarding career serving the community through non-profit service positions with American Red Cross and Goodwill Industries (Retail Sales Coordinator for VP of Operations) serving on numerous Goodwill fund raising committees including An Enchanted Evening, Annual Awards Dinners, and the Goodwill Welfare to Work Program. Andrea has been a speaker both nationally and internationally in the areas of child development including the Association for Young Children, Europe (AYCE) and the International Conference on Volunteer Administration. Most significantly, Andrea, Installation Volunteer Coordinator (IVC), was the featured presenter at the Ft. Carson Volunteer Recognition Ceremony. A partial list of current and past professional and civic involvement includes: VP of Colorado Springs Antiquarians; CEO of CAAT Enterprises; Stephen Minister through Family of Christ Lutheran Church; Association for Volunteer Administration (CVA); National Board Certified Counselor (NBCC); Gold Star Wives and the Kinnikinnik Chapter of the DAR. Andrea and her partner Tom Kocian have been together over 23 years and parent two daughters. Andrea enjoys her family time engaging in actives such as skiing, hiking, traveling and watching Hallmark movies. Andrea is a published author within the Military community as well as in various poetry anthologies.
